Indiscipline On Our Roads: when does motorcyclist stop impacting our lives

Road safety involves measures to prevent accidents ,injuries and fatalities on road including enforcing rules, provides safety tips and signs but yet we record a lot of accidents everyday. As more people are buying automobiles ,the incidents of road accidents .

Today, one of the most indiscipline on our roads is reckless driving. This includes dangerous overtaking,over-speeding,racing with motorbikes and driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs. The combination of these factors causes a lot of problems in our environment today. Overtaking on our narrow and poorly roads often results in accidents. Drunk drivers or drivers who have taken in drugs do not only endanger lives of the drivers but also put passengers in danger as they drive through the streets of the country.

The rise in the use of motorcycles commonly known as “Okada”respectively, has brought about new problems in recent times. This “Okada” riders don’t follow traffic rules, ride on sidewalks, and carry more passengers without helmets on our roads. They always make noise when they are riding and this is not acceptable but they do it. They almostly make noise in the evenings when people are asleep and then they start screaming and shouting loudly at night all in the name of racing. There is this particular word they usually say when racing and that’s “Adaga”before they will mention this word, the noise the will make and this leads to noise pollution. “Okada” riders are everywhere in Ghana and over speeding is part of “Okada” riders and this indiscipline must stop.

Indiscipline on our roads requires a strong approach to address this problem. The Government,Media and Public must come together to instill a culture of discipline, enforce and respect for road safety laws, only then can we hope to see a reduction of the indiscipline making our roads safer for all.
